A Corpse for Breakfast

When a man is found dead at a breakfast table in a quiet Cairo apartment, Detective Omar Basem is called to investigate what looks like a peaceful death — until he finds a sugar-smeared note reading, «I tried to come back. I did not make it. Forgive me.» What begins as a simple mystery unravels into a haunting web of guilt, love, and unfinished forgiveness. The dead man, Hassan al-Masri, had returned to the city seeking redemption from his past, but the people he left behind — his estranged lover Mona and his former partner Dr. Nabil — carry secrets that blur the line between mercy and betrayal. As Omar digs deeper, he discovers that truth can be as deceptive as the city’s morning calm. A Corpse for Breakfast is a slow-burning detective story about second chances, moral decay, and the cost of trying to make peace with yesterday’s sins. Sometimes, forgiveness comes too late — and sometimes, it kills.
